I have never written a script for a play before.
Until this semester which I volunteered to be a scriptwriter for my drama group simply because I wanted to escape being on the stage.
And I did get on the stage, too.

For our Introduction to Shakespeare class, my group mates agreed to do an adaptation from Will's Romeo & Juliet.
We finally agreed to do a Malay retro version of Romeo & Juliet after we rejected the idea of having a Japanese version. Why? We thought it's a lot easier to find proper/suitable costumes and props if we use local settings.
Rosman is Romeo.
Julia is Juliet.
Mak Kiah is the nurse.
Hajah Mariam is the head of Montague.
Hajah Khatijah is the head of Capulet.
Malik is Mercutio.
Takbur is Tybalt.
Rozana is Rosaline.
Tok Haji Mabrur is Friar Laurence.
And I was a villager, the (half of) scriptwriter and the stage manager.
This duties are a lot simpler than few years back when I was in the team of of Todak, a play during our Asasi.
I was a servant, guard, villager, (half of) the PINANG TREE and assistant director.
Hard to believe I actually went through that.
Another half of my class did The Rise of Sycojay, an adaptation from Willy Shake's The Tempest.
